So, my wife and I watched the highly acclaimed feature "Sideways" and the ratings are in:

My Wife: D+
Myself: D-

I can see why people feel that they are supposed to like this movie.  It has the anti-Hollywood qualities that many movie snobs love to love!  Its quirky, depressing, random, sort of all over and has an ending leavings you saying "what the f*ck".

The problem is that where other anti-establishment-sans-Hollywood-flare movies succeed, this fails.  In my mind, the trick of being quirky, depressing, random, etc. is to balance it all out with uplifting moments, characters that you can empathize with and hints of continuity.  This movie tried to find that balance and failed!  It spun out of control into a deeper and deeper depression, tried to recover with some dirty humor and the potential of a possible idea of a happy ending and ultimately left me and my wife begging for it to end.

I watched the horror film "Saw" tonight and I must say "wow".  Overall the movie gets a "D-".  I was sort of into the plot / story line (kind of new and original) and the ending was decent; so I give it a "B" for effort... but when it comes to acting this movie gets a “F”, a flat out zero.

The acting is SO rough it is almost hilarious.
